  • Basic Computer Skills Class Series
    2 – 4 p.m. Silver City Public Library, 515 W. College Ave. Classes every Wednesday and Friday from August 27 – September 19 by WNMU Adult Education Services. Covers computer hardware basics, computer operation basics, Internet and E-mailing, and Microsoft Office basics. Free. Register at the first class session or call Adult Education Services at 574-5101 to register. Limit 14 students.
  • Guided group meditation with Jeff Goin
    5:30 – 6:15 pm Billy Casper Wellness Center 300 E. 16th St. During the month of August, meditations will also be held every Friday. No experience necessary; free and open to the public.  313-4087.
  • Greg & Charlie
    6 – 9 p.m. Diane’s Parlor, 510 N. Bullard St. Original and classic folk- rock.
  • “Circling Around the Earth”
    7:30 – 9:30 p.m. Murray Hotel Ballroom, 200 W. Broadway St. Senior Sufi teachers from Europe will lead meditations, Dances of Universal Peace and spiritual practices. Part of a longer weekend event but Friday evening open to all. $15. Info call Mariam 534-1441.
  • Chicano Music Fest Kick-off Dance

  • Chicano Music Festival
    Beginning @ 11 a.m., running all day. Gough Park, Q’s Bistro and the Flame, Silver City. Enjoy live music, food and car & bike show. Different headliners at each location. Free @ Gough Park, $10 @ the Flame.
  • Ft. Bayard Walking Tour
    9:30 a.m. Fort Bayard Museum (House 26) on historic Officer’s Row located on the west side of the Parade Ground. Ft. Bayard Historic Preservation Society will share the history of the role of the 9th & 10th Cavalry and 24 & 25 Infantry at Fort Bayard. The museum will be open from 9:15 – Noon for those want to explore the history of Fort Bayard without taking the walking tour. No admission fee, but donations to preserve, restore, and maintain the National Historic Landmark are welcome. Info 575-388-4477
  • Dance at the Flame
    8 p.m. 2800 Pinos Altos Road, Silver City. The Xs Band and Chicano Chantz. $10.

  • UUFSC Pot-Luck Picnic
    11 a.m. Little Walnut campground picnic area. Members and friends of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Silver City will enjoy a pot-luck picnic. Drinks will be provided – bring a dish suitable for brunch.
  • Chicano Music Festival
    Beginning @ 11 a.m. Gough Park and Q’s Bistro, Silver City. Enjoy live music and food. Different headliners at each location. Free @ Gough Park.

  • Grant County Democratic Party’s Third Annual Labor Day Breakfast
    8:30-11:00am at Gough Park, everyone is invited. Tickets $5 for a great breakfast of pancakes, bacon, orange juice, coffee. Candidates Raul Villanueva, Terry Fortenberry, Raul Turrieta will serve and we’ll recognize our unions and our working people for their crucial contributions to the community.     Grant County Administrative offices will be closed today for Labor Day. Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday, September 2nd
