As of Today – Monday, June 1- 7689 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in New Mexico, with 356 deaths,  182  hospitalized individuals, and  2,853 recoveries according to the New Mexico Department of Health. 

Grant County has 15 positive cases. 

In total, 199,604 COVID-19 tests have been performed in the state, with 170 having been conducted in Grant County.

New Mexicans who report symptoms of COVID-19 infection, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, and/or loss of taste or smell should call their health care provider or the NMDOH COVID-19 hotline immediately (1-855-600-3453).

AMENDED EMERGENCY PUBLIC HEALTH ORDER TAKES EFFECT TODAY

The amended public health order takes effect today, permitting indoor dining, hair salons, gyms and indoor shopping malls to reopen on a limited basis and in accordance with required COVID-Safe Practices. (press release

Restaurants may resume indoor seating at 50 percent maximum occupancy today. Bar and counter seating are still prohibited; to be served, customers must be seated at tables positioned at least 6 feet apart, per the amended emergency public health order, among other required and recommended COVID-Safe Practices.

Gyms also will be allowed to reopen at 50 percent occupancy. Indoor malls, hair and nail salons, barber shops, tattoo parlors and massage services may begin operating at 25 percent occupancy. Salons and other personal-service businesses must operate on a by-appointment basis, per the amended order. Waiting rooms will remain closed; clients will not be allowed to enter until time for their appointment. 

As they reopen, all businesses must operate in accordance with COVID-Safe Practices for their industry. COVID-safe Practices for individuals and businesses can be found at cv.nmhealth.org

And a reminder that the new emergency order, in recognition of increased risk of transmission with additional economic openings, requires everyone to cover their faces in public, with exceptions for eating, drinking and exercise.

TOMORROW –  FREE COVID-19 TESTING FOR EVERYONE THROUGH GRANT COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICE

A reminder that the Grant County Public Health Office will hold its weekly FREE COVID-19 Testing Clinic tomorrow from 8:30 am – 11:30 am at 2610 N. Silver St. in Silver City – across from the Swimming Pool. Due to increased testing capacity in New Mexico, now EVERYONE can be tested for FREE. Doctor referrals are no longer needed but patients are encouraged to make an appointment. Please call 575-538-5318 ext. 4 for an appointment.

GILA NATIONAL FOREST HAS REOPENED 6 MORE RECREATION SITES

The Gila National Forest has reopened six more recreation sites. Iron Creek, Upper Gallinas, and Railroad Canyon Campgrounds on Silver City Ranger District, Dipping Vat and Aeroplane Mesa Campgrounds on Reserve Ranger District, and the Kingston Campground on the Black Range Ranger District were reopened as of last Friday. 

On April 15, 2020 the USDA’s Forest Service Southwestern Region enacted a campfire ban.   Igniting, building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, including charcoal grills, barbecues, coal and wood burning stoves is prohibited.

FOOD PANTRY SCHEDULE FOR THIS WEEK

St. Francis Associates for the Needy at The Newman Center will hold its weekly Food Pantry  TODAY at 4pm. Cash assistance for rent, utilities, bus passes and prescription drugs is also provided. The food pantry is located at 914 W. 13th St. Silver City. Call 388-4933 for more information.

The Food Pantry at the Gospel Mission in Silver City is open Monday thru Friday, 8:30am-1:30pm. They are located at 111 South Texas Street in Silver City. Call 388-5071 for more information.

The Commons will hold its next Food Pantry for  Silver City, Tyrone & Arenas Valley residents on Saturday, June 6 from 10 am to noon at 501 E. 13th Street in Silver City (Just off Swan Street behind the Knights of Columbus)

MOTOR VEHICLES DEPARTMENT OFFICES REOPEN TODAY

MVD field offices including Silver City will reopen TODAY on a limited, appointment-only basis for transactions that cannot be completed online at mvdonline.com. Staff will employ COVID-safe practices at all field offices, and customers will be expected to adhere to them, as well. Staff and customers will be screened for symptoms and will have their temperatures taken before being admitted to field offices. Face coverings will be required in compliance with the state Public Health Order. New Mexicans throughout the state are strongly encouraged to continue using MVD’s online services to renew driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations and take care of many other transactions from the safety of their homes.
