Kyle

“After spearheading the formation of GMCR/KURU and serving as General Manager, Board Member and the heart and soul of our organization, Kyle Johnson stepped down at the end of May 2020.

There are no words that can adequately express the gratitude due to Kyle for his heroic service to our community, but here are a few that describe him and his unique qualities to create, guide and lead our station:

G = Grand, Gifted, Genuine, Generative

M = Marvelous, Matchless, Magical, Meticulous

C = Creative, Capable, Courageous, Committed

R = Remarkable, Resourceful, Resilient, Resolute

Kyle Johnson, founder, leader, and first GMCR/KURU General Manager

Quite simply, GMCR/KURU 89.1 FM, this incredibly valuable community resource, would not exist without his hard work, sacrifice and dedication.

Thank you Kyle!!!

Ken

Another hero of GMCR/KURU, longtime volunteer and supporter, one of the original program hosts and board member for many years, Ken Keppeler, stepped up to serve as interim Station Manager through the end of 2020.

With the GMCR Board taking on additional responsibilities and Kyle always there for advice and consultations, Ken continued the gargantuan task of running the station, including programming, recording, editing, training new program hosts and volunteers and problem solving at all hours as needed to keep us on the air, a true labor of love and commitment to serve our community.

Thank you Ken!!!

Marcus

One of the volunteers Ken trained was Marcus Hanson who came to GMCR/KURU from KNFT at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

Marcus heard the daily Coronavirus Updates and volunteered to help out.

Marcus eventually took over most of the hosting, recording and editing of the Coronavirus Updates and wanted to do more.

As Ken began training Marcus on other aspects of our station, it became clear that Marcus not only loved everything about radio, he wanted to make a career in radio.

With the approval of Ken, the Board asked Marcus if he would be interested in the position of Station Manager, and he said yes.

Marcus continued training and served the last two months of 2020 as Associate Station Manager and on January 1, 2021 the Board hired Marcus as GMCR/KURU Station Manager.

We feel very fortunate to have Marcus lead our station and continue in the big footsteps of Kyle and Ken.

Thank you Marcus!!!

GMCR/KURU is stronger than ever and we really appreciate all of the support from our leaders, board members, volunteers, program hosts, listeners, members, and donors: past, present and future!!!
