This week on Use Your Words, JJ Amaworo Wilson and Elise Stuart interview Dr Felipe de Ortego y Gasca, considered the founder of Chicano literary history.

Dr Ortego y Gasca has received several awards for his work on Chicano studies; his essay on “The Chicano Resistance” is considered a landmark text in the Chicano literary movement.  He began as a public school teacher and also taught in universities for many years.  He served in the Marines and the Air Force.  He is currently a scholar in residence at WNMU in Silver City, NM and continues to write and make outstanding contributions to the world of literature.
